Hard days of grief press, pain not forgotten My Easter dress hangs limp in the closet. Messy hair, void of make-up, weary with remembrance Sleepy, I make my way into the kitchen. The tomb search begins, traces of light the intent I look for the rainbow everywhere. Gather remnants of colorto disguise the despair This is my urgent offering of love. Earth quakes a low moan, eyes well with tears (again) I never envisioned a scenario quite like this. Seconds are hours, heartbeat on high alert Death sensed in-between the robin’s song. Even as rose petals fan open, fear penetrates All I’ve believed seems…

Still I Rise
Today, I celebrate Maya Angelou. I am by no means an expert on Angelou. But, sometimes, you read something from a writer that so deeply resonates, the words remain inside you. For me, this is my story with Maya. I haven’t read I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. I haven’t read Letter to My Daughter. Not long after, I read a few lines of her poem Still I Rise in the book, The Dance of…

Notice the spark which lights you from within? See how time is forgotten when you are in the flow? What’s that? Bubbling anger? Don’t dismiss it. It has come to teach you something. Does this injustice need your unique voice? “I’m afraid,” you admit. Beloved, I see your fear. Fear of change. Fear of joy. “I have too much to lose. I’m scared of excess…

From the beginning, God shows up as a loving God who doesn’t oppress but frees. When evil lurks, God is in the midst rising up new leadership. When people are hungry, God provides manna. Where other systems use the high and mighty, God uses the outcast and least of these. When people fail God, God forgives and gives another chance. Our faith lies in a God who restores peace and wholeness…
