Brilliant Blessings, One Blazing World

He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” Exodus 3:2(b)-5 The desire is deep, isn’t it? For God to grab hold of us, to shine a burning…

Lay Down Your Weapon and Go Hug a Tree

Listen friends, today, when you’re tempted to place your armor on, to throw on your mask, to pick up your weapon, I urge you to pause. (right here.) Good. Now, open your door. Take a step into the wild beyond, toward the untamed world that lies just past the ordinary threshold of your home. Find a tree that calls to you. The one with crooked branches, or a quick climb up. Find the one with speckled leaves or a skinny trunk. Consider this beauty. It’s for you. Who are you, who am I but a speck of dust when I…

Coming Back to Center (Pt. 2)

Precious child, today you waken, and before you set your feet on the firm ground a sliver of last night’s dream rushes, bolts through you, the unknown, shattered pieces you attempt to understand, but a fear pervades, a confusion persists. It doesn’t stop there. One hundred times plus, this very day, pieces of you will splinter, flung to the far reaches of the world where a comment made spins you wild, where angry news whirls you with it, where internal dialogue whisks you to doom. All your frazzled self can do is hang tight to the whisper in the wind,…

Lifeless

The Word hangs lifeless. Silence after silence sweeps. Love pours out for all. To Ponder: John 19:30 “When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed.” Bowing his head, he gave up his life.” Spend some time today allowing yourself to sink into a space of emptiness and unknowing around the death of Christ. Consider writing a journal entry about what Christ’s sacrifice means to you. Prayer: Loving Savior, Today let me observe your sacrifice with compassion and mercy. Open my eyes to what this gift of love means for my life. Amen.

Fully Awake!

This second week of Lent, I’m focusing on the Transfiguration in Luke’s Gospel. I love how Peter wants to built little dwellings up on the mountaintop and stay! How true when we are surrounded by glory, we don’t want to leave! As I read through this passage, my attention was caught by the phrase “fully awake.” I imagined what my expression might be at viewing the glory of the Lord, fully awake. My weekly art offering is the result. This was a fun, charcoal experiment!   Scripture Reading: “About eight days after Jesus said this, he took Peter, John and James…
