[2:50] First Step: Pour Out Your Prayer in Pencil, Sharing Ways to Engage this Step
[3:33] Two prompts to engage: Wishes for myself; Wishes for the World
[5:00] Second Step: Listen in and draw a free flowing line in your squares.
[6:30] Watch Ally engage step two.
[8:15] View your prayer in different ways.
What do you notice? Develop in whatever way calls to you.
[10:10] Step Three: Tune into your feeling and emotion.
What color desires to be added?
[11:45] What message do you hear as you paint with color?
Consider letting your square dry and tend with small dots and dashes.
[13:10] Step Four: Receive the message
and write it on the back of your square (I often write it in haiku form!)
[13:30] Painting the second prayer.
[16:25] Tend, add prayer dots, refine.
A COLORFUL PRACTICE TO MOVE FROM CONFINEMENT TO FREEDOM
Listen. I got to a place in my prayer life that felt dry. Boring. And, very repetitive. When I engaged art as prayer, it changed my life. With this said, I wonder what is happening in your life that you find dry, boring, repetitive? This is a sparky little practice you can do any time you’re feeling stuck! Let’s break out of the box — TOGETHER!
[0:00] Welcome to Break Out of the Box
[1:10] Overview of Materials
[1:30] Trace your Square on a Clean page with a pencil.
[1:45] One hand on your square, one hand on your heart and ask:
Where in my life am I feeling boxed in?
[2:22] Write your prayer about what arose for you inside your square!
[2:50] Add a spark of freedom, refreshment and breaking out!
With a black permanent marker, begin inside the box, and allow your marker to run FREE!
[3:45] Then, move your hands in the shape of your line around your body.
Close your eyes. Feel into what FREEDOM feels like.
Ask for a small symbol to come to your mind’s eye and then let it expand.
[4:35] Add your FREEDOM symbol to the page.
[5:00] Pause intentionally. Speak a silent prayer around release — and then, ERASE the box!
[5:30] Freedom of color! Consider blending your colors with a wet wash.
Take time to playfully add your colors!
[7:35] Let your colors dry completely.
Then, write a reflection onto your page with these prompts:
FREEDOM LOOKS LIKE…
FREEDOM TASTES LIKE…
FREEDOM FEELS LIKE…
[8:40] Consider going back into your image and add marks, colors and bedazzle to your image!
