The Women Show Up

“But all those who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.” –Luke 23:49

“The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it. Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.” – Luke 23:55-56

The women show up
to hold space
to grieve pain
with prayer

The women show up
to support the Christ
to embrace one another
with love

The women show up
to honor their truth
to claim their knowing
with presence

The women show up
to let tears fall
to witness injustice
with fullness

The women show up
to bring caring
to live solidarity
with courage

The women show up
to mix spices
to prepare perfume
with intention

The women show up
to rest their bones
to practice faith
with trust

The willingness to arrive —
(to show up)
to that which we believe in,
to open to the Mystery,
to take a stand by being,
to bring our gifts,
our whole selves
in service to Christ
despite the naysayers who
find our way peculiar

is the risk
each of us is
asked to take

— This, the dark doorway
that leads to risen life
