This week for Advent, I dwell with Elizabeth and what happens when Spirit meets Spirit.
At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!” – Luke 1:39-45
Your voice wafted to my ears.
It came like a sparrow singing her song,
as gentle waves of the ocean tide.
It arrived with the essence of frankincense
and opened me to the power you bring.
As I watched your lips form words of love,
the life inside me responded, awoke.
My blood warmed new blood,
a flutter of ballerinas danced through my core,
my spine stood straight in awe of the holy dance,
tears of the past released themselves
in a puddle at my feet,
my pores opened to receive
this truth of joy.
A shudder began at the crown of my head,
tingled itself down to the tips of my toes.
And now,
I can’t help to proclaim aloud,
“You are blessed!
I am blessed to receive!”
Together, we, the ignited
a force of joy and peace
to share the good news
with the world.
